The book's main character, Oleh Vyshnevyi, is a UPA fighter; in a battle in Volyn, he was captured by the Germans, then in a concentration camp, and again in the trenches of the Second World War. Still, now he is part of a penal battalion. You can talk more about the richness and dynamism of the text, but why recount the impressions of the book if you, dear reader, can get them yourself?
