Description

Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño is a literary phenomenon whose popularity is only growing: from being recognized as one of the best writers in Latin America (BBC, 2018) to being named one of the 100 best works of the 21st century (The New York Times, 2024). Susan Sontag, Patti Smith, John Malkovich - all admire his work.

The main themes of his writing: the banality of evil and violence on the one hand, and the meaning of literature and the recognition of the author on the other. His style is straightforward and frank, and the tone is ironic and melancholic at the same time. Most importantly: Bolaño's texts open the door to other authors, Latin American and not only, about whom we may not have heard yet, but, having read Bolaño, we understand that they are worth paying attention to.

Bolaño worked in various genres: from short prose and novels to poetry and drama, which he destroyed, considering them unsuccessful. The best way to get acquainted with his work is with the collection of short stories that you are holding in your hands. "Killer Whores" combines cruel reality and playful fiction, Mexican Western and detective noir, the spirit of the beatniks, elements of horror and many, many reflections on literature as such.
