One conversation can change everything
Communication shapes our relationships and the decisions we make, but its scientific basis and ways to improve it are still little known. Harvard Business School professor Alison Wood Brooks’ book “Talk” reveals fascinating research on the power of effective communication. The author offers tools that, according to her MBA students, are truly life-changing. Combining psychology, linguistics, sociology, and neuroscience, Brooks developed the original TALK model:
T – Topics: Skilled conversationalists choose good topics and make any topic better;
A – Asking: help us move from one topic to another and delve deeper into them;
L – Levity: keeps our conversations from getting boring;
K – Kindness: good conversationalists care about others and show that care.
Based on his own research, Brooks proves that even small changes in the way we communicate can radically affect our relationships, careers, and lives.
