Sir Winston Churchill /1874–1965/ is one of the most famous statesmen and politicians of the 20th century. During his political career, he served as Prime Minister of Great Britain twice, while also serving as Minister of Defense during the most difficult times for the countries of the British Commonwealth, the Second World War. It is very difficult, if not impossible, to overestimate Winston Churchill's contribution to the victory of the Allied forces over the Axis countries, because when the world was facing the threat of a large-scale catastrophe, it was his wise and balanced policy that largely made it possible to create an alliance of allied countries, which later allowed them to win victory over the armies of Germany, Italy and Japan. At the same time, Winston Churchill's active and successful political career somewhat overshadowed his achievements as a writer and publicist in the public consciousness.
