October, 1966. Nineteen-year-old William Lavery is about to start work at the family's funeral home and is having fun at his college graduation ball for the first time. The celebration is interrupted by the news that there has been a landslide in the coal mine in the village of Aberfan, and a huge number of bodies are being pulled out of the school buried underground. William immediately becomes a volunteer and sets off. This tragedy changes his life forever...
That night made him think of the little boy he was and the losses he tried so hard to forget. William discovers that compassion can have unexpected consequences—because what we so tirelessly give to others helps us heal ourselves.
