The fourth volume of Lem's Six Books includes the philosophical and sociological work "The Sum of Technology", which was published as a book back in 1964. Stanisław Lem devoted it to the issues of cybernetics, astronautics and futurology. It would seem that the passage of time and progress in the technical sphere and the development of science should deny or even refute many of the writer's statements. No, the Polish philosopher's thoughts on the development of the modern world are surprisingly fresh and relevant. Taking into account the historical experience of humanity, Lem subtly analyzes its existence in the present and the supposed future and predicts possible paths of progress of earthly civilization, as well as its possible contact with its brothers in mind, although he considers this unlikely. The book requires a thoughtful reader, and if there is one, he is guaranteed an exciting journey into the amazing realm of cosmophilosophy.
