The trilogy "Tartaren of Tarascon" by the famous French novelist and playwright Alphonse Daudet (1840-1897), which has gained great popularity among readers, combines three books - "The Extraordinary Adventures of Tartaren of Tarascon" (1872), "Tartaren in the Alps" (1885) and "Port Tarascon" (1890). The protagonist of the trilogy, Tartaren, a funny fat man from a small Provençal town, has the features of both Don Quixote and Sancho Panza: he craves exploits and glory, although due to his own cowardice he never left his native Tarascon. However, his incredible vanity and wild imagination still force him to leave the cozy house, garden with baobab and go to meet the dangers. The author portrays his hero with a purely French humor - a good-natured and carefree, short-sighted and narcissistic boaster Tartaren from Tarascon, whose name has long become a household name.
