Alex Easton receives a letter from his childhood friend Madeline Asher, asking him to come to her estate in the remote countryside of Ruravia immediately. Alex, along with his faithful horse Gob, have fought in many battles with sworn soldiers, but even they are frightened by the atmosphere around the Asher house and the evil that lurks within. Madeline is slowly dying of a mysterious illness, she walks in her sleep and speaks in strange voices. Her twin brother Roderick also seems ill, but categorically refuses to leave the family estate. With the help of an amateur mycologist and an American military doctor, Alex must solve this mystery of the fallen Asher house - otherwise it will devour them all.
