Description

Selmy dreamed of an okapi for the third time. The inhabitants of Westerwald already know that this dream portends death. Therefore, they desperately avoid people, animals, traffic. They write lengthy letters about "always" and "never". They fill their lives with truthfulness, because it is extremely painful to die with hidden truth in the body. So the optician, who kept his love for Selma a secret for decades, decides to give free rein to his feelings. Louise's mother, Astrid, is looking for a way to divorce her father. She doesn't love the owner of the ice cream parlor with whom she had an affair, but she doesn't love Peter anymore either. But none of them will die this time. And the death that will happen will not break their hearts as much as the heart of Louise, Selma's granddaughter...

"What can be seen from here" is a philosophical novel-reflection about the absurdity of life and death, immortality, such different and sometimes inappropriate love. About grief that changes one girl and an entire community. And about finding yourself in this big, strange world.
