Theocritus (c. 310 - c. 240 BC) is one of the most famous lyric poets of Ancient Greece of the early Hellenistic period, the founder of the idyll genre. His poems subtly and truthfully reflect the lives of ordinary people, primarily shepherds, their feelings and experiences, which are in amazing harmony with nature. The charms of music, the beauty of nature, the delights of love are the dominant themes of the idylls and epigrams of Theocritus, a talented master of poetic miniature. The entire creative output of Theocritus is being published in Ukraine for the first time in a separate edition.
