Description

Acceptance and Responsibility Therapy (ACT) was introduced in the first edition of this book in 1999, Acceptance and Responsibility Therapy: The Process and Practice of Mindful Change, by Stephen S. Hayes, Kirk D. Strossal, and Kelly G. Wilson. Its development has resulted in significant conceptual, technological, and empirical progress.

This edition focuses on the model of psychological flexibility as a single model of human functioning.

It is intended for those who are just beginning to study the model, as well as for those who already have extensive experience using it. Practicing therapists need to learn to see the processes of psychological flexibility in the present moment and respond to them in accordance with the model, and this book is designed to help them achieve this goal.

Here, the authors have attempted to facilitate understanding of the most important foundations of ACT—functional contextualism and TRF. The authors have made the development strategy, contextual behavioral science (CBS), as obvious as possible.

Stephen S. Hayes, Ph.D., is a professor of Psychological Research Foundation in the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His career has focused on analyzing the nature of human language and cognition and applying that knowledge to understanding and alleviating human suffering.

Kirk D. Strossal, Ph.D., is a primary care psychologist at the Central Washington Family Medicine Center in Yakima, Washington, where he promotes the use of acceptance and responsibility therapy in general practice, primarily with low-income or uninsured clients.

Kelly G. Wilson, Ph.D., is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Mississippi and director of the Center for Contextual Psychology and the Acceptance and Responsibility Therapy Method Development Group.
