At the turn of the 20th century, the Boxer Rebellion breaks out in China, directed against Western influence - peasants and artisans of Northern China protest against the government and the Germans, who are destroying their lands. Opera singer Sun Bin joins this anti-imperialist movement out of patriotic indignation, as well as grief for his murdered wife. Once in the hands of the Germans, the man understands that he is facing the death penalty. However, a simple execution will not suit the enemies, because they want to teach a cruel lesson to others and force them to submission. Zhao Jia, a famous executioner and at the same time Sun Bin's brother-in-law, must use a method of torture, under which the punished will not die immediately. And this method becomes lynching - death by a thousand cuts.
