Third Kharkiv

The concept of “Third Kharkiv” was created by Yurii Shevelov in his essay “The Fourth Kharkiv”. For him, the capital period of the Slobozhansk metropolis was the brightest in the history of the city. As he himself wrote: “You declared Kharkiv the capital of Ukraine? Okay, we will make it so. We will fill it with Ukrainian content. The Third Kharkiv is the Kharkiv of Khvylovyi and VAPLITE, Kurbas’s “Berezol”, the exhibitions of the ARMU in the halls of the former monastery, the irreconcilably passionate debates in the House of Literature named after Blakytnyi on Kaplunivska Street, the Courses of Oriental Studies, Ukrainian students, Ukrainian in origin, soul, program and aspiration, slowly Ukrainianized factories and institutions, unique, unrepeatable, full of life and the madness of daring. The Third Kharkiv, the Kharkiv of our young youth”.
The book contains essays about the bright creators of Third Kharkiv and their works, namely: Mykola Khvylovyi, Mykola Kulish, Les Kurbas, Arkadii Liubchenko.
