The events of the book “Status Civilization and Ticket to Planet Tranai” unfold in two worlds, where humanity is searching for an ideal form of existence — and each time it encounters the absurdity of its own aspirations.
In “Status Civilization,” Robert Sheckley describes a society in which social prestige becomes the main goal, and human dignity is measured by titles and rituals brought to the point of grotesqueness. In “Ticket to Planet Tranai,” the hero sets off for a distant utopian planet, where harmony and happiness seem to reign, but instead there is cold indifference and a cynical logic of “perfection.”
Both works form a satirical dilogy about the search for a perfect world, which turns into a mirror of human flaws.
