This is a novel that shows the formation of a “new Ukrainian” who will be able to overcome the terrible regime of the imperial system and win the right of his people to the future. This is a hymn to a person who fights for his happiness and wins. The work tells about the terrible pages of the history of the Ukrainian people – the Stalinist repressions of the 1930s. It is based on autobiographical events: the exile of Ivan Bahrianyi to the Far East, to the GULAG. Having escaped from the special NKVD stage train that transported Gulag suicide bombers to Siberia, the author of “Tiger Hunters” lived in the taiga for almost two years, got to know and love this distant and harsh land and its inhabitants.
