Classic translation by the outstanding Ukrainian translator Anatol Perepadi

Foreword by the Ukrainian literary scholar and critic Anna Ulura

The first part of Marcel Proust's famous seven-volume epic "In Search of Lost Time. On Swann's Side", translated by one of the most outstanding Ukrainian translators Anatol Perepadi, is one of the key works of modern psychological prose. The novel, written back in 1913, begins a poetic, intricate journey through the labyrinths of memory - the world of childhood memories, inner experiences and imagination of the main character - the boy Marcel, in which so many autobiographical features of the author himself are intertwined.

At the heart of the work is a story of lost childhood, impossible love, a satire of high society trapped in the ephemerality of fashion, as well as a philosophical study of involuntary memory, behind the myriad secret doors of which everyone experiences their own, always different story. Marcel Proust created not a fictionalized chronicle of the events of his own life, but a detailed self-portrait of the artist's inner world, where sound, color, taste, and even smell awaken the imagination and forever connect the text with the reader's heart.
