The first of the three posthumous books that make up In Search of Lost Time was first published in November 1923, a year after Marcel Proust's death, in a translation by the brilliant Ukrainian translator Anatol Perepadia.
In the deeply intimate and psychologically intense fifth volume of the epic saga of the French classic Marcel Proust, The Prisoner, our Narrator becomes increasingly acutely aware of the contradiction between sincere feelings and the desire to dominate and subjugate Albertine's freedom. He immerses himself in the study of the lack of freedom in love and intimate feelings that can turn sincere feelings into a prison.

The Prisoner is the most intense part of the saga, forcing readers to immerse themselves in their own experience of love, jealousy, and loneliness.
