The author and creative group worked on the creation of the album, including doctor of art studies, professor of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, full member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine Lada Miliaieva, candidate of art studies Mariia Helytovych and others.
To date, this is the first and most complete edition of the Ukrainian icon not only in terms of the volume of monuments presented (528 works) but also in terms of the breadth of chronological boundaries. Based on the latest scientific research in the field, the album provides a comprehensive account of the history of Ukrainian icon painting from the earliest period.
First of all, the importance of the publication lies in the fact that a number of monuments are included in the scientific circulation, which significantly complements the previous ideas about Ukrainian medieval painting. Clarification of existing attributions is proposed. In addition, along with the icon painting, an examination of the monuments of wall painting is presented, which together create a whole interior of the Ukrainian church.
For the first time, a complete presentation of the largest collection of icons in Ukraine and the world of the National Museum in Lviv named after Andrey Sheptytsky is presented.
