It seems self-evident that Ukraine’s location at the crossroads of the West, the South, and the East (complexes of cultures, religions, socio-economic models, and political regimes) influences its past, present, and future. However, it was only at the beginning of the 20th century that Ukrainian scholars began to take a serious interest in this phenomenon and, unfortunately, by the beginning of the 21st century, they had not studied it thoroughly. Instead, the study of the Multifrontier — the “crossroads of borders” — will not only allow us to understand the Ukrainian past more deeply, but will also help us to better cope with the problems of the present — in particular, to overcome the postcolonial complexes of a victim nation, a stateless or even anti-state people, etc. On the other hand, thanks to the concept of the Multifrontier, the legendary Ukrainian love of freedom and inclusiveness of our culture become clearer.
