“Conditions Don’t Matter” by Liliana D. Chuk is a collection of short prose that offers a very unusual experience for the Ukrainian reader. At first glance, the texts of this book are completely different in everything: heroes, themes, situations. But they are all permeated with a ribbon of alienation and loneliness. From a businesslike businesswoman who disappears into cheap bars in the evenings to a stalker who can’t let go of her ex — each hero of the collection is superfluous in his environment and copes with himself in his own way.

Liliana D. Chuk’s prose can be compared to a set of puzzles that are put together line by line at the end of each work, and the brevity of her presentation guarantees the absence of unnecessary details, ensuring the presence of all the necessary ones.
