Julio Cortázar (1914–1984) was an Argentine writer, poet, essayist, and translator, one of the representatives of the Latin American "boom" of the 1960s. His work is characterized by experiments with form, chronology, and language, combining the magical and absurd with everyday life. Cortázar turned literature into a game that requires the active participation of the reader. He expanded the boundaries of traditional narrative, in particular in his famous novel "The Game of Classics" (1963), which can be read in different sequences of chapters. Julio Cortázar's works are striking in their depth, paradoxes, and philosophical overtones.
