The book includes three stories — "Don Juan of Kolomyia", "Venus in Furs" and "Moonlit Night" — which are worth reading at least out of curiosity: it's interesting to find out what the person whose name would later be called a mental disorder told.
The future author saw the concept of a new prose through a crack in the closet, having found himself in his aunt's bedroom by the will of fate. Passion, a whip, and furs, in which the naked countess loved to walk, turned into three whales on which his creativity rested. The story "Venus in Furs" describes a fact from the author's personal life.
He and his new mistress concluded a written contract, according to which, for six months, the professor of history at Lviv University would turn into a slave on the condition that the baroness would always... wear furs.
However, this story is primarily about the boundless, fanatical, obsessive love and crazy feelings of a man for a woman. A man who was willing to sacrifice everything, including his own life, for the sake of his love. But about a woman who at first could not understand the essence of the invented game, and then skillfully used it...
