Umberto Eco (1932–2016) was a prominent Italian writer, philosopher, medievalist historian, and semiotician.
In his essay “Eternal Fascism” (1995), an important work in Umberto Eco’s oeuvre, the writer and thinker identifies and analyzes 14 characteristics that, in his opinion, are characteristic of fascism, particularly in its new forms and manifestations. These characteristics are sometimes used to describe the modern Russian political regime.
