From threshold to threshold

Paul Celan's collection From Threshold to Threshold (1955) contains 47 poems from the early Parisian period and reflects the most important events in the author's life between 1952 and 1955. The main motifs of these poems are love and death, poetry and language, the memory of the dead, and human solidarity. The poetic code of the threshold, mentioned twice in the title of the book, determines the symbolic plane of these poetic texts, which reproduce with profound figurative power the existential borderline state of the lyrical hero.
