Ruta Makowi, the heroine of Halyna Petrosaniak's debut novel, finds herself in Switzerland and unwittingly becomes an accomplice in something she considers a crime. However, for Ruta's Swiss colleagues, there is no crime involved: in their world, such things have long become routine... Different worldviews collide in this novel. Fundamental concepts that we consider unambiguous suddenly bifurcate threateningly, forcing the heroine, and with her the readers, to search for precise answers: what is dignity, where are the boundaries of freedom and dependence? The novel has several motifs: illness and old age, love and music, the dramatic combination of good and evil in man.
