"Vinyl" is a novel about 30-year-olds who never grew up. Only the war made them look at life differently.
At the center of the story is Ryta, a songwriter who has not written anything for the past seven years. She is trying to figure out why this happened. Why did it not work out to build a relationship with her former bandmate and can true friendship survive everything?
This is a book about life in Kyiv with its cozy streets, crowded bars and old cinemas. It is also a text about loss and memory, about love that does not always have a happy ending, and about music as a way to preserve oneself.
Valeriia Babko easily and ironically captures the state of a generation: its jokes, slang and experiences, closely related to the reality of war.
