"Winnetou I" is the first novel in the adventure cycle of the famous German writer Karl May (1842-1912) about the Apache Mescalero chief Winnetou. The events of the cycle unfold in the second half of the 19th century in the United States during the colonization of the Wild West. The noble and brave Winnetou heroically resists attempts to deprive his people of the right to live on their own land. And in this unequal struggle he finds a white ally - a surveyor of the Western Railway named Killer Hand.
