On the coast of Australia, many, many miles from the nearest town, in a house filled with the love of her mother Agnes and the cruelty of her father, lives nine-year-old Alice Hart. Mom's beautiful garden is the only place where she can not be afraid, hiding from sudden outbursts of anger. Until the fire, which brings with it the inevitable tragedy and death, does not force Alice to leave everything that she was so afraid of and at the same time loved so much.
A young girl is forced to settle among the flowers and broken women of the flower farm of Grandma June, a florist she has never known before. Alice grows up, learns the language of flowers, which helps to talk about difficult things, and realizes that there are wounds that even flowers cannot heal. Family secrets are buried much deeper than the flower's roots, and if she wants to be free, she must find the strength to uncover the most terrible story - her own.
