Several millennia have passed since the previous book in the series, “God Emperor of Dune,” took place. During this time, humanity, as predicted by God Emperor Leto II, now called the Tyrant, has spread to countless planets. This process is called the Scattering, and the travelers themselves have become the Lost Ones.

But the Lost Ones have begun to return en masse to the Old Empire, the homeland of their ancestors. Is this evidence of a terrible danger threatening humanity, which the Tyrant also foresaw?
