Description

Paris, 1940, a city under German occupation. A young Jewish woman, Judith, meets a young Christian. But his wealthy parents are Nazi sympathizers and will never approve of his choice. The occupation authorities are becoming increasingly cruel, so the couple plans to escape the country. But will they succeed in carrying out their intentions?

Montreal, 1982. Shortly before her death, Lika Grunberg confesses to her daughter, Jacobine, that she has an older half-sister, Judith. During World War II, her husband fled from the Nazis, but lost all contact with his firstborn. Jacobine promises her father to find the sister she never knew.

Washington, 2006. A Frenchwoman, Beatrice, takes on the care of the elderly Jacobine and learns about the complicated history of her family. The woman gets closer to solving Judith's mystery, but life makes its own adjustments...
