“City Women” is the first book in the “Women Write” series, which collects little-known texts by Ukrainian classics from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. These works are about city women who work, love, seek their calling, try to make their own lives and the lives of others more comfortable or escape from the village to discover the possibilities of the city. These are texts arranged by literary critic Anastasiia Yevdokymova and found in archives and libraries, centered on city heroines. Under one cover, works of different genres are collected: the play “Wings” by Liudmyla Starytska-Cherniakhivska, the sketch “The Visit” by Valeriia O’Connor-Vilinska, the novella “Lottery-Alegri” by Natalka Poltavka, the story “On the Balcony” by Natalia Romanovych-Tkachenko, and the story “The City Woman” by Liubov Yanovska. The publication contains a foreword by literary critic Olena Romanenko, who reveals the contexts of writing the works and key circumstances of the authors' lives.
