Lives of the Famous. Volodymyr Dibrova

The collection of short stories "Lives of the Famous" is about figures of Ukrainian literature and culture of the 20th century. For Ukraine, it was a time of wars, repressions, hardships, revolutions and stagnation. Almost all the main characters of the collection have already entered (or, at least, would like to enter) the circle of outstanding historical figures. Chapters are dedicated to them in school textbooks, and government spokesmen warmly remember them during anniversaries. But what was their existence really filled with? How did they cope in the midst of the darkness and despair into which inexorable History plunged them? Was there a place for dignity, joy and, above all, love in their lives?
