Amid the turmoil in Northern Ireland, a moving story unfolds about choosing between one’s values and feelings that could destroy everything.
Amidst the news that brings news of another tragedy every day, Kushla tries to lead a quiet life with her mother in a small town near Belfast. During the day, she teaches at a parish school, and at night, she works part-time in the family pub. There she meets Michael Agnew, a lawyer who has gained fame defending IRA members. Against common sense - because Michael is not only Protestant, but also older and married - Kushla allows herself to plunge into his sophisticated world, and feelings flare up between them. But when the father of one of her students is massacred, this is the beginning of events that threaten everything Kushla wants to protect most.
