Due to poverty, Mariia Faryniak is forced to give her son, nine-year-old Mykhailo, to be raised by her late husband's relatives: her uncle Stefan, the owner of a bookstore, and her aunt Kasia, a strict woman who is not happy about the appearance of someone else's child in the house. Thus begins the story of Misko Faryniak, a boy of the beginning of the 20th century, which is strangely intertwined with the story of Mykhailo Faryniak, a man of the beginning of the 21st century. This is a story of childhood friendship and non-childish betrayals, family skeletons in the closet, and love that saves lives through the centuries and mysteriously unites two namesakes without common blood.
