Documentary novel built based on materials of the investigative case of the Cyril and Methodius Society: protocols of interrogations, face-to-face bets, confessions, denunciations, and reports. The book brings to life the brothers, young people who unexpectedly found themselves in the hands of the political police and passed tests in different ways: the eternally divided Panteleimon Kulish, the timid intellectual Mykola Kostomarov, the slave of honor Mykola Hulak, and the ironic Taras Shevchenko.

Heroes from the other world also come to life here: the head of the Third Department, Count Orlov, the chief of gendarmes Dubelt, Kyiv governors Funduklei and Bibikov, and Tsar Nicholas I.

After all, if you read the story again and carefully, it reveals a well-known biblical plot: with Judas and the thirty pieces of silver, Peter, who denied himself three times, Pilate washing his hands, and the Messiah.
