"Closing Time" returns the resourceful Yossarian and the cynical Milo Minderbinder, the kind and naive Chaplain Teppman, and the former tail gunner Sammy Singer - heroes who, along with a whole generation who had to fight in the 40s, are coming to the end of their own lives . However, now their enemies are not Nazis, but time, age and society, which is rapidly changing.
Before you is a brilliant satire on the realities of the modern world. Heller talks about the absurdity of politics, the greed and hypocrisy of business, social problems, about culture in the post-industrial era, and also about loneliness and the eternal desire for love, friendship, memory and loyalty. The novel combines elegy and black humor, grief and funny apocalypse.
"Trap-22" is a stormy comic masterpiece about trying to survive. And "Closing Time" is a nostalgic-comic story about how to live life and approach its limit.
Although "Closing Time" was written by Joseph Heller as a sequel to the novel "Catch-22", both books can be read independently of each other and in any sequence.
