Thanks for Every New Morning

"Thanks for Every New Morning" is an autobiographical novel by the Czech writer of Ukrainian origin Halina Pawlowská, which became one of her first and at the same time her most popular books.

​​The coming of age of Olga - the author's alter ego - takes place against the background of the dramatic events of 1968 in Czechoslovakia, the occupation of the country by Soviet troops, and the following more than 20 years of totalitarian absurdity. Even with the brand of the niece of the "Ukrainian bourgeois nationalist", the girl tries to get the most out of life. And although it is difficult to call her family exemplary, her parents' unconditional love and support become invaluable for Olga on her way. Friendship, love, losses, funny stories, unique Prague, and vicissitudes related to the Ukrainian family of the main character are intertwined in an exciting plot full of witty humor, sophisticated irony, and unexpected subtexts.
