Publishing House "Komora" has existed since 2013. The co-founder of the publishing house is the Ukrainian-British JV "Komora" ─ an over 20-year leader in the domestic music equipment market and a well-known sponsor of many iconic cultural projects (the "Chervona Ruta" and "Rock-Existence" festivals, the "Telnyuk Sisters" band, the International Clarinet and Saxophonist Competition "SELMER-Paris in Ukraine", etc.). The motto of the publishing house ─ "only what remains" ─ reflects the policy and business strategy that it has brought to the Ukrainian book market: the release of high-quality books intended for home libraries and more than one generation of readers. After 9 years of operation, the "Komora" catalog has over 90 publications, and we can proudly say that there is not a single "passable" among them! "Komora" ─ is a reliable brand of a first-class cultural product.
Specialization: Ukrainian and world fiction and non-fiction, modern and classic. The publishing house sees its main mission as opening up to the Ukrainian public names, phenomena and trends that are definitely valuable, including those that are not yet properly “promoted” in our country, and thus contributing to the growth of national reading standards to the level of the so-called “most literate countries”. The Supervisory Board of “Komara” is working diligently on the formation of the publishing portfolio, involving leading literary scholars, literary agents and translators not only from Ukraine, but also from Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Canada, the USA and other countries for consultations. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board is Oksana Zabuzhko, a writer who has been translated in 20 countries, and one of the top authors of “Komora”.
Every discerning reader will find something to their liking in our “pantry”. The publishing house has projects without which it is impossible to imagine the worldview of a modern cultured person: the first uncut, most complete edition of Lesya Ukrainka’s letters in 3 books in 100 years, the translation of James Mace’s landmark work for Western political science “National Communism in Soviet Ukraine. 1918-1933”, M. Yakubovich’s fundamental study “Philosophical Thought of the Crimean Khanate”. Our bestsellers include recognized classics of the 20th century – Vaclav Havel, Svitlana Alexievich, V. Domontovich.
In its popular translation series, Komora has gathered a selected library from a previously little-known direction in Ukraine - the modern Central European novel. Here, for the first time, such "star" writers of the Central and Eastern European region as Ivo Brešan (Croatia), Goran Petrovych (Serbia), Jacek Denel (Poland), Pavol Rankov (Slovakia), Slavenka Drakulic (Croatia), Milenko Jergovic (Croatia), Bohumil Hrabal (Czech Republic), Carmen Laforet (Spain), Nino Kharatishvili (Georgia, Germany), Radka Denemarkova (Czech Republic) are presented in Ukrainian. The quality of Komora's translations is ensured by leading masters of their craft: Alla Tatarenko, Andriy Bondar, Roksolyana Sviato, Yuriy Zub, Tetyana Okopna, Olena Feshovets, Anna Vovchenko and others.
Stay with Komora ─ and we will help you satisfy your intellectual hunger and discover new literary and artistic worlds worth loving.
