Description

“Insurrection” is the final book in the historical trilogy “The Year 1794” by Nobel Prize laureate Władysław Reymont, dedicated to the events of the nationwide liberation movement against the occupiers – the Russian Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. The author paints a broad panorama of the popular resistance, emphasizing the role of volunteers, burghers and peasants-cooperators, who became an important force in the uprisings. Through the prism of the perception of the main character, the nobleman Sever Zaremba, the evolution of society and the tragedy of a generation of patriots are shown.

The plot unfolds from the time of the Krakow Oath of Tadeusz Kościuszko, which marked the beginning of the insurrection, and recreates in detail such key milestones of the military campaign as the legendary Battle of Racławice and the heroic defense and battle for Warsaw. Although these battles were victorious, the uprising itself was ultimately defeated. However, this was not the end of the struggle, but only the beginning of a long, more than a century-long struggle to restore state independence.

We recommend the book to historians, researchers of classical European literature, as well as to all lovers of high-quality literary fiction and large-scale historical novels.
