Description

"The History of Philosophy in Hutsul" is a unique book that immerses you in the magical depths of the Hutsul world. Living stories, stories from the lives of mountain people, their thinking and worldview, where well-known and lesser-known mountain people act as Greek philosophers.

This is how Józef Tischner tells about the beginning and emergence of philosophy in his book. It is also a rich world of Highland speech: Polish Gural in the original, and Ukrainian Hutsul in translation.

"The History of Philosophy in Hutsul" is not so much a translation as a "reimagining" of the famous in Poland "History of Philosophy in Gural" by Józef Tischner (1931–2000) - a preacher, philosopher, chaplain of "Solidarity", a person with a sharp mind and an extraordinary sense of humor.

The multifaceted bibliography of the author includes several dozens of positions important for the entire Polish culture, but this book, in which the ancient Greek philosophers settled in Pidgalli, acquired Gural names, and spoke the Gural dialect, became his greatest publishing success.

A quarter of a century later, the translator Oles Herasym, who fell in love with the landscape and mentally related worlds of the Ukrainian and Polish highlanders, did everything possible to make the Hutsul version of Tishner's bestseller sound no less organic than the original.
