The book "The Princess" is a collection of the first three novels of Taras Shevchenko, which were written by Kobzar during his exile. Shevchenko's prose works were created on the ideological basis of the writer's poems, they are evidence of the author's pain and suffering, and at the same time, his indomitable faith in the power of the human spirit and truth. A look at Kobzar's work from the perspective of his prose will reveal unexpected and sometimes much more timeless aspects of the classic's creative work to readers.
The story "The Princess" is Shevchenko's work with elements of biographies of real figures, depicting the complex social reality and problems of ethical choice in Ukrainian society. In the center of the plot is the story of the decline of the landlord family and the painful fate of Princess Katrusi. The author uses this plot to show how the immorality and heartlessness of the upper classes of the population lead to the tragedy of ordinary people. Shevchenko explores the themes of unequal marriage, serfdom, moral decline and social injustice.
In the story "Naymichka" Taras Shevchenko addresses the theme of women's fate, where the central figure is a mother who is forced to hide her motherhood due to the pressure of societal prejudices. She becomes a symbol of moral endurance and nobility, despite all the trials she has to endure. Najmychka becomes a victim of the ruthless opinion of those around her, but her story is not only about suffering. The story "Naimychka" is also a story about love, devotion and hope for a better future.
In turn, in the story "Varnak", Shevchenko explores the theme of social injustice and human honor through the lens of the protagonist's personal experiences. The action takes place in the harsh reality faced by a former convict, who is forced to fight for survival in a society that does not forgive mistakes. The image of the main character Kirill is a symbol of disenfranchisement and despair, which permeates the destinies of many characters of the writer's art. Poverty and difficulties: Kirill's eyes see a world full of torment, the hero struggles with external circumstances, trying to find his purpose. Is he driven by revenge? In the publication "The Princess", Shevchenko will answer this question and talk about the moral dilemmas that pervaded the story "Varnak".
