On Earth, infants infected with the SDI agent undergo a rapid metamorphosis, culminating in a complete restructuring of their bodies and a transition to anoxic metabolism. At the same time, a pathogen almost identical to the SDI agent infects terrestrial plants, stopping the production of oxygen, and the decrease in O2 concentration threatens to become a greater driver of planetary chaos than even the most extreme manifestations of global warming. Scientists trying to resist this invasion discover a strange carbon world far beyond the boundaries of the universe visible from Earth, but they are completely unprepared for what they see there.

"Collapse" is the second book in the fantasy series "New Dark Ages". It is a story about losing control. The story of how human pride - our blatant inability to admit mistakes and stop in time - sets civilization on an irreversible path to darkness.
