Individuals change the world. People who stand out from the crowd to show the direction of change by their own example. The world is merciless to such people, but if they withstand the pressure directed at them and do not break, then they become symbols. That was the poet Vasyl Stus (1938-1985), who in his work overcame colonial dependence and made national dignity an inseparable part of human dignity. It was for this reason that the ideologues of the USSR did not just ban the poet's work - even getting to know him was treason. However, the death in the solitary confinement of the VS-389/36 camp and the act of reburying the poet's ashes in Ukraine made the figure of Vasyl Stus a role model: "Of course, you can kill me, but I will not give in," as if the poet is saying with each of his actions.
The edition includes 100 poems by Vasyl Stus, which are programmatic for the poet. "Today, Stus is one of those figures who really unites Ukraine and teaches us to understand each other," says Dmytro Stus, the editor of the collection.
