An illustrated adaptation of an original play from the Canton Opera repertoire.

Chinese musical drama is a theatrical art that combines singing, recitation, acting, dance, acrobatics, martial arts, and pantomime. It originated in ancient times, and now there are more than three hundred unique types of local operas in China.

"Lev Yi delivers a letter" is an adaptation of the original play of the Canton Opera repertoire. This is a legend about how one day, during the Tang Dynasty, the scientist Liu Yi met a shepherdess who turned out to be the Dragon Queen. The story glorifies loyalty and the desire for happy love.

Cantonese opera is included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO and is considered one of the most melodious. It originated in the modern province of Gwandong, and thanks to its performance in the Cantonese dialect, this genre of opera became popular in Hong Kong, Macau and Southeast Asia.

In the book you also:

you will find an artistic analysis of the play's libretto
you will understand the symbolism of the work
see what costumes the actors wear
you will find out what musical instruments are played during performances
