It is unlikely that there are many books about art in the world that could withstand 16 reprints, and simply an innumerable number of translations into almost all languages of the world, to which, finally, Ukrainian joined. So Professor Ernst Gombrich's book breaks all records thanks to the unique approach of the author, who decided to write not a standard academic dry history of art with a bunch of dates and personalities that are poorly known even to specialists, but an exciting story that reads like a novel. That is why he called his book "Narrative" and not "History", although it contains a wide overview of art from ancient times to the present. The uniqueness of this book also lies in the fact that the author talks about art from the point of view of the artists themselves, trying to reveal to the reader their inner world, to show and tell about what tasks they themselves set before themselves and what challenges the circumstances of their personal lives and the eras in which they lived threw at them. Professor Gombrich analyzes in detail the works that came out of their workshops, avoiding in his descriptions the excessive use of purely technical artistic terms and using, as he himself writes, "simple language", but at the same time not sacrificing the "complexity of thought". And what is very important - there is not a single work in the book whose high-quality illustration was not given right on the page where we find its description, which makes the book very convenient to read. It is also important to emphasize that the translation of the book into Ukrainian was made by a collector and art connoisseur, a professor Andrii Nakorchevskyi, which guarantees its high quality. "The Story of Art" has become an international bestseller, it has been translated into more than 20 languages.
