Tribe of War: Memories from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Ukraine

This story begins in 2001, when a young US Army officer, JT Blatty, receives an order to go to Afghanistan after the events of September 11. And it continues in Ukraine in 2018, when JT, already as a photojournalist, goes to Donbas to take portraits of Ukrainian volunteers. This is a story about the war through the eyes of a veteran and a war documentarian. A mosaic pattern of memories, reports, reflections and interviews. Here, as if in a kaleidoscope, the faces of cities change — New Orleans, Kandahar, Nasiriyah, Kyiv, Toretsk, Bakhmut. Here, the voices of those whom the author meets on her way and who become part of her life — Yuliia Tolopa, Alina Viatkina, Bijan Sharopov — are heard. “The Tribe of War” is a very honest and sincere story about a chance to move forward, the search for true freedom, about the special world of veterans from the inside.
