1960s, Mississippi, USA. Aibileen worked all her life as a servant for white people, raised seventeen of their children, but lost her only son. Minnie is a restless and unrestrained woman with whom you should not argue. Due to her difficult character, she is forced to change owners often, but she can still find work: her cakes and pies are incomparable. Skeeter, a white girl, returns to her native Jackson after graduating from university. She dreams of a writing career and wants to tell the world about what is happening here in the American South.

These women are very different. But they are united by a heightened sense of justice and an irresistible desire for change in their lives. Together they write their secret book about the difficult fate and constitution of that time and do not know if it will ever see the world...
