Description

There is a land called Silver, the land of the Polonyn Mountains, the Hutsul Alps and the Volcanic Carpathians. And there is a writer who has known the soul of this land.

Ivan Chendey (1922–2005) is one of the most famous Transcarpathian prose writers, a unique short story writer, screenwriter of the cult film “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”, winner of the Shevchenko Prize (1994), co-founder of PEN Ukraine. Chendey’s work is about love for one’s own: history, customs, memory, simple people with pure and warm hearts. And about glorifying this love in words. The writer’s path in literature was not easy: years of oppression, persecution, dismissals and harassment. But he overcame the surrounding cold of silence with his voice. With this collection of selected short prose, we return Ivan Chendey to the reader. We return with the wind from the valley, frightened seagulls, winter dawn, the red gold of the autumn sun, March snow, a white road for two.
