Description

“Attention! Attention! You hear the voice of Free Ukraine!” In the fall of 1943, at the height of World War II, the radio space of Europe began to talk about Ukraine. These were the words that began each broadcast, which was broadcast in English, French, German, and even Russian several times a day. Listeners of this radio, which was called “Aphrodite,” could learn, for example, about how a young girl, a member of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, captured two Germans on a motorcycle, took their transport and weapons, and forced them to take off their uniforms before releasing them. The radio did not stop broadcasting even when the German occupiers were replaced by the Russians. And the news from Ukraine was announced – unbelievable, but true – by the Belgian Albert Hasenbroucks, who became one of the radio workers.

“Radio Aphrodite” is a documentary novel that tells the story of underground radio, through the figure of the Belgian Gesenbroeks and the people with whom he worked side by side. It is a story about struggle, courage, courage, but also about betrayal and love. Oleg Kryshtopa spent 14 years conducting interviews, journalistic investigations and researching documents to write this novel.

“Radio Aphrodite” contains a text block and a block with documentary photographs. The book is printed on exclusive pure cellulose paper Munich Polar in two colors: the text is black, individual elements are dark orange. The cover was created using designer cardboard Artlibris Air Bag Extra White coated with protective varnish.
