Blue Etudes. Mykola Khvylovyi

Mykola Khvylovyi is the author of "The Tale of the Sanatorium Zone", "Sentimental History" and the novella "I (Romance)", one of the brightest representatives of the generation of the Shot Revival. He was not only the initiator of the literary discussion of that time, but also publicly spoke about the independence of literature from the influences of Moscow and the need to orient himself towards Europe.

The book that brought Khvylovyi fame was "Blue Etudes". He was read, criticized, and imitated. At the center of each text are romantics who are aware that their ideals will be crushed under the weight of reality. The characters, like the writer himself, become witnesses of how the fairy tale about a better future, in which they once believed, turns into ashes and dirt. Khvylovyi's heroes live on the verge of eras and are aware of their end.

In "Blue Etudes," the author captures the traumatic experiences of his generation, social fractures, and distorted reality, in which he tries to find lost meanings.
